Warsaw University of Technology begins the construction of the PW-Sat3 satellite

07.01.2019

– We are currently commencing the construction of the PW-Sat3 satellite at the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. It will be developed by the next generation of students – announces the deputy coordinator of the PW-Sat2 project, Dominik Roszkowski.

Within 4 weeks the PW-Sat2 satellite carried out all the planned tasks. The success of the mission proves that the technology of the deorbitation sail developed by students from Warsaw can help solve the problem of space debris that may damage probes, ships, as well as the International Space Station.

The unfolding of a deorbiting sail made of a mylar film 10 times thinner than the human hair was the main task of the satellite. During the mission, it was also possible to take the first Polish satellite image of the Earth. The photograph shows southern Sweden, clouds over Norway, a fragment of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
