Wielkopolska Center of Advanced Technologies to launch Laboratory of Language Neuroscience

22.05.2019

The Wielkopolska Center of Advanced Technologies in Poznań has launched Laboratory of Language Neuroscience. Scientists of the Faculty of English Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University will study, using electroencephalographs, what happens in the brain when we speak, read and learn new words.

The subject of research will include bilingualism, creativity, as well as emotions evoked by language and its learning. Currently, two research projects are carried out in the laboratory, including executive functions of the brain responsible for creating, maintaining, supervising, correcting and implementing the action plan and processing the meanings of words in the mother tongue and the foreign language.

The research results will be used for the development of learning methods of foreign language and also in the therapy of various disorders such as, for example, aphasia (loss of speech ability in a person who had no problems with it before, e.g. due to diseases or brain damage).
