Agnieszka Mikołajczyk, PhD student of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering at the Gdańsk University of Technology has become the originator and designer of the application that can diagnose skin nevi in terms of neoplastic changes.

Diagnosing skin lesions was the subject of her PhD student’s engineering thesis. In this way, she created an algorithm and an application, supported by artificial intelligence, which can be installed on an ordinary computer. The artificial intelligence algorithm used in the application was improved by a young researcher during her MA studies.

During her doctoral studies, Agnieszka Mikołajczyk focused on the deep learning. This subcategory of machine learning consists in the appropriate creation and training of neural networks in such a way that they generate the desired predictions on their own, based on the available data. In this case, they should be able to recognize on the basis of the photos whether the nevus is malignant or benign.
