The Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics at the Department of Biomaterials and Composites of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow has researched CRF fertilizers, which are new generation fertilizers.

CRF (controlled release fertilizer) are fertilizers that contain biogenic elements that are available in a form that the plant cannot absorb immediately. They are usually coated with materials that enable control of the rate and time of nutrient release. Their ability to control the release of substances is the main factor that distinguishes CRF fertilizers from traditional ones.

Thanks to research at AGH, scientists were able to optimize the process of producing such fertilizers, as well as examine and evaluate their properties by comparing them to analogous conventional mineral fertilizers.

The conclusions from the research of scientists from AGH indicate that CRF fertilizers allow plants to have continuous access to micronutrients, ensuring their sustainable growth and development. In addition, slow and controlled release fertilizers are able to prevent the washout of nutrients from the soil, which could occur during heavy rainfall.
