Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Bialystok University of Technology are renovating the Lim-5R fighter jet for the Military Museum in Bialystok.

The fighter has already completed the plating, attached fuel tanks and is ready for re-painting. Professionals use 3D printing technology for renovation.

In addition to preparing a combat jet for painting, specialists from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Białystok University of Technology polished the cab fairing and disassembled the engine. Reducing the mass of the jet will make it easier to hang the monument on a pylon specially designed by scientists from the university, which will attract the eyes of passers-by in the Military Park with its uniqueness.

Employees of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Bialystok University of Technology replaced the missing elements using 3D printing: ailerons for fuel tanks, handles fastening them to the wings, missing lighting elements and a periscope on the pilot’s fairing.
