The Research Team from the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology of the Institute of Medical Sciences of the University of Rzeszów is implementing the project “Cytisine in the treatment of electronic cigarette addiction: a randomized placebo-controlled study”.

At the end of last year, the university received a grant for its implementation in the competition of the Medical Research Agency in the amount of 9 million 860 thousand PLN. Now it has announced two tenders. The first tender will select a commercial company to carry out the research, and the second tender is for providing with drug and placebo used in the study.

The research project will last several years and will be carried out in several dozen centers across the country.

The result of the research will develop pharmacological treatment of addiction to electronic cigarettes and the so-called double addiction, i.e. addiction to electronic and traditional cigarettes. If the study is successful, its results will be the world’s first scientific evidence on the basis of which the first drug to help people addicted to electronic cigarettes may be registered.
