The Outpatient Clinic for Blood Coagulation Disorders of the Department of Haematology, Blood Tumours and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Medical University of Wrocław (UMW) has been awarded a certificate confirming European standards of care for adults with haemophilia and other rare haemorrhagic diathesis.

The certificate for the Wroclaw university was awarded by the European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) and the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC). So far in Poland, only two centres in Warsaw have been so certified, the university reports.

“This is an important distinction for our centre. There is no register of haemorrhagic diathesis in Poland so far, so the exact number of patients is not known. It is estimated that about 7 people per 100,000 population suffer from haemophilia A, and about one per 100,000 from haemophilia B”, says Professor Maria Podolak-Dawidziak from the Chair and Department of Haematology, Blood Tumours and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Warsaw.
