Gdańsk University of Technology to conduct research on new use of biomass

10.09.2021

The Gdańsk University of Technology was one of the participants in the BioBIGG project: Bioeconomics in the South Baltic Area: Innovations based on the use of biomass and the development of green areas. The project identified, described and prepared the most innovative and economically attractive pilot opportunities and investments with a cross-border perspective.

The aim of the project is to incorporate hitherto unused and new biomass resources, in particular waste from the food processing chain, such as the production of cereals (straw), sugar, vegetables, wood and from the processing industry. They can be processed into a number of food or non-food products from biomass, which otherwise would be irretrievably lost.

The project was implemented by: the Gdańsk University, Roskilde University (Denmark, leader); Swedish RISE Research institutes of Sweden; Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the German Agency for Renewable Resources and the University of Greifswald.
