Graduate of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology receives the second prize in the architectural competition

18.01.2021

The design of the mountain shelter in the Karkonosze Mountains by Kamil Szymański – a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology – was awarded by the industry portal “Architektura i Biznes”.

The engineering and master’s theses defended in 2018–2020 were assessed in a nationwide competition. The second place was taken by Kamil Szymański, whose diploma was appreciated for “respect for the mountain landscape and a bold and modern concept allowing for close contact with nature”.

The shelter would be made of reinforced concrete – for structural and aesthetic reasons, because the concrete in color and texture is similar to the bedrock. The façade would also have large glazing that would blur the barrier between the interior and the exterior, as well as expose the view of Wielki Staw and the Łomnica valley. A one-storey, high-standard facility will be a pattern to follow for the competitors.
