Institute of Environmental Engineering joins the project to develop a new system for cleaning gases from shaft furnaces

22.11.2021

The Institute of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences is a member of the consortium of the project, aiming to develop a technically and technologically effective new system for cleaning gases from shaft furnaces. It will be allowed by the combustion of hot pre-dedusted gases from shaft furnaces.

The essence of the new method is to change the method of dedusting, from the currently used wet system to dry dedusting in a bag filter. After dry dedusting, gases will be freed of partially volatile pollutants and will be transferred to a scrubber for final cleaning.

The cooled gases will be directed to a bag filter where dust will be released. It will result in obtaining the material with a high lead content, then processed in rotary and shuttle furnaces.

The project is co-financed by the National Center for Research and Development and KGHM Polska Miedź SA.
