Katowice Waterworks is carrying out the renovation of a water supply network in the centre of Katowice. For the renovation of the steel water pipeline network, which has a diameter of 600 mm, Katowice Waterworks is using a trenchless method using flexible sleeve technology.

“The reversed sleeve, and coated with adhesive inside, is inserted into the pipe. Inside the network, it is inverted so that it sticks well to the walls of the pipe. The hardening of the adhesive is facilitated by using hot steam. This shortens the process to just a few hours, and the sleeve strengthens and seals the water pipes”, says Stanisław Krusz, CEO of the Katowice Waterworks S.A.

Trenchless work, although the name suggests otherwise, requires excavations to allow workers to reach the pipes. As a result, the works are not associated with major inconvenience for residents. The surface area of the pavement requiring resurfacing after operations on the network is also reduced.
