Scientists from the Lublin University of Technology (PL) Prof. Emil Sasimowski and Łukasz Majewski from the Department of Technology and Processing of Polymer Plastics have created a biodegradable polymer composition intended for the production of packaging, disposable tableware and cutlery that decompose naturally under the influence of biological factors.

“Our composition consists of a polymer and a plant-based filler. Biodegradable polysuccinate, which is the matrix of the composition, is mixed with 10% to 50% of ground wheat bran with grain sizes below 0.2 mm”, says Prof. Emil Sasimowski from the Department of Technology and Processing of Polymer Plastics.

Due to the use of bran, which is a by-product of grain milling, the costs of using the developed polymer composition are lower compared to unfilled biodegradable plastics.

The invention of Lublin scientists was appreciated at the International Exhibitions of Inventions Geneva Inventions 2022 and iENA 2021, receiving two gold medals.
