National Science Center to support Polish-Czech research on machine learning

13.01.2021

The National Science Center will allocate almost 600 thousand PLN to the research of the scientists of the Faculty of Electronics of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The money is intended for research into long-term machine learning. The partners in the project are researchers of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, VSB-Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic).

– The project is related to the issue of lifelong machine learning – tasks in which the computer system acquires the skills of learning to solve new tasks, while maintaining the ability to deal with previously learned problems – says project coordinator, Prof. Michał Woźniak.

The most important problems that researchers want to solve include issues related to the use of previously acquired knowledge, preservation of knowledge after previous tasks, transfer of knowledge to future tasks as well as knowledge updating and ways of taking into account the user’s knowledge in the learning process.
