Nicolaus Copernicus University PhD student wins French government scholarship

A doctoral student at the Doctoral School of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń ‘Academia Artium Humaniorum’- Anna Zalewska has been awarded a French government scholarship for a research internship at the Department of Slavonic Studies at the Sorbonne University in Paris.

During her stay in France, the doctoral student will carry out the project “Guides, Charmers, Anthropophagites. Women with Demonic Connotations in Polish and East Slavic Folk Magic Fairy Tale’, devoted to fairy-tale images of witches and wizards and the transformations they undergo in relation to folk beliefs about them.

It is planned to show fairy tale characters in a cultural-anthropological light, as well as to refer to narrative historical sources and feminist criticism. The internship programme also includes scientific consultations, participation in seminars, numerous library searches and the publication of an article in a foreign scientific periodical.
