15.12.2021

Aleksandra Mrówczyńska, a first-year student of the Doctoral School of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, received the prestigious Joseph Conrad Fellowship at the De Republica Institute.

The scholarship’s winners will participate in regular meetings with outstanding humanists and will be mentored in their work on the research project of their choice. The culmination will be a scientific publication on this topic.

Aleksandra Mrówczyńska is preparing her doctorate on the nineteenth-century adaptation of Daniel Defoe’s “Robinson Crusoe”. Thanks to the scholarship, she will implement the project “Polish, English and German educational idea in the nineteenth-century robinsonades” – works that present the experiences of the shipwrecked heroes, repeating selected motifs taken from Defoe’s novel. The aim of the project is to analyze selected robinsonades from different cultural backgrounds, focusing on aspects of the complex dialogue that the authors had with the pedagogy of the time.
