PhD student of the University of Silesia explores briquettes and charcoal for barbecue

Zbigniew Jelonek, PhD student at the University of Silesia develops the comparative standards for the analysis of pollutants in charcoal and briquettes used in barbecue grills. The aim of the research is also the identification of harmful compounds resulting from the combustion of solid fuels.

– My goal is to analyze briquettes and charcoal available on the Polish market in terms of the presence of substances harmful to human health and our environment – explains a PhD student. He also wants to develop the least harmful composition of these fuels by demonstrating the influence of solid contamination on the processed food and the elimination during the production phase to reduce the emission of carcinogenic compounds.

The research is carried out as part of the implementation PhD dissertation in the cooperation with the company GGS-PROJEKT Department of Geology and Environment – informs the university spokesman, Jacek Szymik-Kozaczko.
