International surveys of 13,000 residents from 12 countries show that our well-being has deteriorated during the pandemic. The Polish contribution to the analysis is made by scientists from the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN).

Researchers of 12 countries, including Polish experts of the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, determined the factors contributing to the deterioration of the mental state during the coronavirus pandemic.

2,734 patients worldwide were anonymously screened for the worsening of their previous psychiatric conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic. An independent clinical trial of 318 psychiatric patients from the USA was used for verification. Part of the study was also an online survey in which over 13.3 thousand people participated.

A clinical trial in the US confirmed the deterioration of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic in people who previously struggled with mental health problems.

Among Polish respondents who had suffered from mental disorders before the pandemic, 54% felt their condition worsened due to the pandemic.
