Polish Academy of Sciences prepares report “Understanding COVID-19”

23.09.2020

Scientists working under the direction of the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Prof. Jerzy Duszyński have prepared a report that presents in an accessible way the current state of knowledge about the SARS-CoV-2 virus, COVID-19 disease and its medical, psychological, economic and social consequences. In the publication, scientists are presenting epidemic forecasts for the fall-winter season and recommendations for citizens and institutions.

Scientists warn that if Poles will not be successfully persuaded to follow sanitary recommendations, such as wearing masks or maintaining physical distance, freezing the economy and social life may be necessary to stop the pandemic.

The costs of this solution will be enormous for citizens and the state. Therefore, Poles should do everything possible to comply to universal, consistent, empathetic and solidary sanitary recommendations announced by the relevant state services.
