The Prof. Richard Pipes Laboratory of the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences is inviting participants to the international conference “Immigrants from the Caucasus in Europe. Between the Idea of Freedom and Alienation”, which will be held on 2-3 September 2021.
The conference will consist of two parts. The first session will concern the history of Caucasian emigration in Europe after the October Revolution. As part of it, the organizers will try to answer the following questions: How did Caucasus immigrants get involved in political life? What was the fate of individual political emigrants? What was their contribution in learning about the Caucasus region?
The second part of the conference will concern the contemporary period after the political changes in 1989. Here, the organizers would like to discuss the following issues: How did migrants from the Caucasus influence the social life and economic practices of European societies? How is the process of integrating people from the Caucasus? What is the influence of religion on the perception of people who came to Europe from the Caucasus?
