12.01.2021

Scientists of the Department of Molecular Genetics of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) are the authors of groundbreaking works in the field of cancer genetics. Their analysis appeared in the journal “Nucleic Acids Research”.

The work “A pan-cancer atlas of somatic mutations in miRNA biogenesis genes” presents the first comprehensive analysis (atlas) of somatic mutations in the genes of proteins involved in the formation and function of miRNAs.

Polish researchers analyzed the occurrence of somatic mutations in a panel of 29 genes involved in miRNA biogenesis and function. They used data from over 10,000 exomes of various types of cancer deposited in The Cancer Genome Atlas repository.
