The Polish Archaeological Center will be opened on February 27, 2018 with the participation of Sebastian Skuza, deputy minister of Science and Scholarship and Prof. Marcin Pałys, Rector of the University of Warsaw. It will be headed by Prof. Mahmoud el-Tayeb, who has been associated with the University of Warsaw throughout his academic career.

Polish archaeologists are still in the forefront of Nubia (ancient Sudan) research. At the end of the 1950s, the expedition of prof. Kazimierz Michałowski discovered and saved the famous frescoes from the Faras cathedral (kp)
