Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center to launch a system for the so-called quantum communication and cryptography

23.06.2021

The Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) is launching a system for so-called quantum communication and cryptography. It is the first installation of this type in Poland that works in an operational telecommunications environment. It guarantees secure network connections, resistant to hacker attacks.

The secure transmission was launched between PSNC server rooms 7 km away from each other. The existing fibre-optic infrastructure, the so-called dedicated dark fibres, i.e. optical fibres that currently do not carry any network traffic. The infrastructure is part of the PIONIER (academic computer network consortium) and POZMAN (a network connecting universities, research units, schools, administration units) solutions.

Quantum technologies will enable the provision of safe services to users. Innovative quantum solutions are currently tested and implemented in the best research centers in Europe and in the world.
