This year’s winners of the European Heritage Awards/ Europa Nostra Awards in the Research category include the project “Heritage Opportunities / threats within Mega-Events in Europe (HOMEE)”.

The project, carried out jointly with Politecnico di Milano (Italy), University of Hull (Great Britain) and Neapolis University Paphos (Cyprus), investigated the relationship between organizing great events, such as, for example, European Capitals of Culture or World EXPO Exhibitions, and the use and protection of cultural heritage.

The research part of the project ended with the creation of a literature review, publications on ongoing case studies (in Poland it was the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016), a report on the implementation of the European Capital of Culture 2019 in Italian Matera and a report on the situation of events during the COVID-19 pandemic.
