R / V Oceanograf – a research vessel of the University of Gdańsk has set out on a cruise to Cadiz. During the 23-day journey, around 100 scientists from a consortium of six European maritime universities SEA-EU will conduct five one-day research cruises and implement three complex projects.

One of the scientific aims of the voyage is to compare the characteristics of a given sea area with other areas along the west coast of Europe. The studied factors will include air quality, gas accumulation in surface sediments and the level of microplastics.

R / V Oceanograf is the most advanced research unit of this type in Europe. The catamaran has six rooms for researchers and equipment that allows for a thorough examination of the seabed. As scheduled, “Oceanograf” will dock in Cadiz on June 17, and five days later it will begin its return to the home port in Gdynia. The entire route of the cruise is 4 thousand nautical miles.
