Researcher from the Catholic University of Lublin awarded for 2020 best scientific debut

The book “Lemkos. Between integration and dispersion 1918-1989”, published by the Neriton Publishing House, written Dr Anna Wilk from the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), won the 12th competition for the Tomasz Strzembosz Award for the best scientific debut on the history of modern Poland.

The publication is the aftermath of the doctoral dissertation prepared under the supervision of Prof. Rafał Wnuk at his seminar on the history of the 20th century. Dr Anna Wilk’s book was also nominated in the 8th literary competition for the Fr. Prof. Bolesław Kumor Award in the “Book about the Sądecczyzna” category.

The publication is devoted to the political history of the Lemko people. It presents the history of the Lemko community in the Lemko region and its process of separating group unity, as well as searching for identity in the situation of Ukrainian-Polish rivalry to include local people in their own national or citizen communities.
