Researcher of the University of Gdańsk wins the Polish Intelligent Development Award

Prof. Magdalena Gabig-Cimińska of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Gdańsk won the Polish Intelligent Development Award 2020 in the “scientist of the future” category. She was awarded for the project related to the treatment of psoriasis.

The aim of the project “Understanding the molecular basis of the regulation of the activity of the lysosome, a potential target of therapeutic intervention in inflammatory skin diseases, based on the example of psoriasis” is to understand the functioning of the endosomal-lysosomal system, which is a kind of “cleaning service” of the cells of the human body and to identify unknown elements of the psoriatic process at the molecular level.

The laureate’s research can help to understand the causes of psoriasis and treat it more effectively, as well as to better understand other chronic autoimmune inflammatory diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.
