19.02.2018

The team of Dr. Przemysław Witaszczyk from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow undertook an attempt to create a professional software that examines the emotions of computer game players.

These are innovative research on the so-called emotional interface based on artificial intelligence. Researchers want to define the emotions of the of virtual games players as precisely as possible.

– It is necessary to use not only the equipment, but above all, modern machine learning methods, in order to create so-called game emotion engine. Data on the player’s emotional level are collected by means of a 12-channel medical EKG device, an electroencephalograph, a sensitive mouse, and gameplay markers from the game – explains Dr. Witaszczyk.

Emotion detection technology can have many applications also out of computer games, for example in medicine, education, entertainment or social media. The team members are applying for 5 million PLN from the National Center for Research and Development and from the Foundation for Polish Science.
