Researchers of the University of Silesia patent new perylene derivatives

12.01.2021

Scientists of the University of Silesia have developed and patented perylene derivatives – chemically modified compounds belonging to polyaromatic systems. They can be used in the optoelectronics industry and in technologies that use nanographenes and their precursors.

Perylene and its derivatives are the chemical compounds that attract more and more attention of scientists around the world. Their properties enable to find new applications in the areas of chemistry, materials science or in modern technologies, such as optoelectronics and solar cells.

The perylene derivatives are characterized by extraordinary thermal and photochemical stability and a tendency to self-assembly, which makes them even more interesting for applications in the optoelectronic industry and in technologies using nanographenes and their precursors. Perylene derivatives can also be components of hybrid materials attractive to organic electronics.
