Scientist from the University of Silesia receives grant from the Stanisław Ulam program

Dr Mourad Smari from the Spanish University of Coimbra will carry out the project “Development of new magnetic materials at room temperature and applications in magnetic refrigeration” at the University of Silesia. The research is possible thanks to a grant from the Stanisław Ulam program of the National Agency for Academic Exchange.

The project responds to technological challenges in refrigeration and air conditioning, taking into account energy saving and mitigating environmental impact. Magnetic cooling is an alternative to traditional methods based on gas compression cycles – it gives higher energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

The project is planning to expand the current knowledge on both basic and practical aspects of magnetocaloric materials in magnetic cooling. The research results will bring tangible benefits to scientists and industries interested in the development of advanced cooling technologies.
