Scientist-refugee to find refuge in Krakow

27.07.2020

In September this year, the first refugee scientist will come to Krakow to continue his work in Poland under the international Scholars at Risk program. An agreement in this regard was signed by representatives of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Villa Decius Institute of Culture (IKWD).

Thanks to this cooperation, the scientist whose name will be known only after his arrival in Krakow will be able to live in safe conditions and continue his work.

Dominika Kasprowicz, director of IKWD explained that Scholars at Risk program is “an international network of academic institutions and individuals whose mission is to protect persecuted members of the university community and promote academic freedom”.

This network is organizing temporary jobs at universities and high schools and is helping keep scientists safe.

The program allows them to continue their research work until conditions improve and they return to their countries of origin. Kraków Willa Decjusz and the Jagiellonian University, were the first to join this program in Poland – emphasized Kasprowicz.
