Scientists of the Medical University of Wroclaw to conduct research on the innovative CAR-T therapy

16.04.2021

Scientists from the Medical University of Wrocław have obtained over PLN 15 million from the Medical Research Agency for research on the innovative CAR-T therapy. The therapy is a hope for cancer patients suffering from chronic, aggressive cancers.

Obtaining a grant will enable the launch of CAR-T production at the Medical University of Wroclaw and its use in patients with aggressive lymphomas and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The university is also planning to create a technology platform that will allow the production of CAR-T.

CAR-T therapy is based on isolating leukocytes, including T cells, from the blood, which are frozen and sent to a laboratory for modification. With the help of a viral vector, they are genetically programmed to recognize cancer cells. Cells programmed in this way are able to recognize cancer cells, attach to them and actively destroy them.
