Fourteen scientists of the University of Gdańsk joined the most influential 2 percent scientists in the world in terms of the citation of their publications by other authors from their disciplines and sub-disciplines.

The prestigious list includes 14 names of scientists of the University of Gdańsk: Robert Alicki, Jerzy Falandysz, late Marek Grinberg, Michał Horodecki, Paweł Horodecki, Ryszard Horodecki, late Jan Kapuściński, late Alfons Kawski, Andre Marc Selosse, Bogdan Skwarzec, Piotr Stepnowski, Grzegorz Węgrzyn, Adrianna Zaleska Medynska and Marek Żukowski.

The list was prepared after a comprehensive assessment of the scientific achievements, calculating the complex bibliometric index, taking into account such factors as the number of independent citations, the Hirsch index, and the place and role of the author among co-authors. The list was published in PLOS Biology by authors from Stanford University, the Elsevier publishing group and SciTech Strategies.
