Scientists of the University of Wroclaw develop flood warning system

09.07.2020

Researchers from the University of Wroclaw have completed an innovative early warning system for floods. Soon HydroProg will send companies and institutions automatic notifications about potential floods.

The HydroProg system is based on the so-called combined forecast, i.e. the resultant of many hydrological models, and provides for high water levels thanks to the analysis of data collected on an ongoing basis by a network of proprietary measuring stations. The system was created thanks to the support of the National Science Center and the National Center for Research and Development.

Wroclaw scientists for seven years have been successfully testing the system in the Kłodzko region, where the risk of flooding is particularly high due to the mountainous relief of the area. In the Kłodzko Valley, the system creates water forecasts three hours in advance. However, it is able to warn of the threat up to three days earlier.
