Scientists of Wrocław University of Science and Technology preparing support for Polish medical institutions

09.10.2020

Scientists of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, together with doctors and employees of the Gromkowski Provincial Specialist Hospital are working on a solution that will support Polish medical institutions in the fight against the pandemic.

Researchers are developing a method for the immediate production of spare and alternative parts for medical and protective equipment, and create a virtual platform to deliver it to hospitals within twelve hours.

The digital platform (Virtual AM Storage Covid-19) will include digital models of components and equipment for manufacturing. This allows companies, research institutes and other organizations involved in production to start printing the parts quickly.

The undertaking also has a research aspect. Scientists want to test the possibility of producing protective elements from materials with antiseptic properties, e.g. with the addition of active silver and / or copper particles using additive technologies.
