Silesian scientists honored in the Zygmunt Gloger competition

Dr Dionizjusz Czubala, ethnographer and folklorist, in the years 1975–2002 an employee of the philology department of the University of Silesia, won the 1st award and a medal in this year’s Zygmunt Gloger competition. He was awarded for initiating and conducting unique folklore research, especially in Polish urban legends.

Another scientist from the Silesian university – Prof. Ryszard Kaczmarek from the Institute of History was awarded the 2nd award and the Z. Gloger medal for his extensive research, editorial and organizational achievements concerning the history of Silesia and Germany.

The Gloger prize is awarded for special merits in the research, protection and development of Polish culture. The competition is organized by: the Social Press Association “Stopka” in Łomża, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Cultural Center, the Marshal’s Office of the Podlaskie Voivodeship and the Town Hall in Łomża.
