Silesian University of Technology becomes the leader of the application to the European Patent Office

The Silesian University of Technology was ranked first in the ranking of Polish institutions submitting the most applications to the European Patent Office (EPO). Despite the pandemic, the number of applications from Poland is growing at the fastest pace in Europe.

According to the recently published Patent Index 2021, the number of patent applications filed with the EPO by Polish companies, universities and research institutes increased by 12.8% last year. This is four times the rate of growth than a year ago and the second highest growth rate in Europe after Portugal.

The largest number of patent applications from Poland were submitted by the Silesian University of Technology. The university moved up from the fourth place it held a year ago. The top ten includes two other scientific institutions: AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków – 6 applications) and the Institute of High Pressure Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (5).
