On August 19, 2021, a new runway with infrastructure was officially commissioned at the airport of the State Higher Vocational School (PWSZ) in Chełm. “We are witnessing a model (…) civilization leap of this place in the Lublin Province,” said Przemysław Czarnek, Minister of Education and Science during the ceremony.

The runway with an artificial surface, 1020 m long and 30 m wide, was equipped with navigation lighting of the edge, threshold and end of the runway and the PAPI system (precision landing approach system in both directions). The investment allowed to build a turf runway with dimensions of 800 x 50 m and a heliport with navigation lighting, as well as ways connecting the runway with the front of the hangar, fuel station and heliport.

“The new investment has increased the attractiveness of our University as a leading training center for pilots in Poland” – emphasized the rector of PWSZ in Chełm, Dr Eng. Arkadiusz Tofil, State University of Applied Sciences in Chełm.
