Angelika Kopcińska, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Krakow University of Technology (PK) has developed a self-disinfecting chair that prevents the spread of viruses, in particular the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The prototype of the invention was created as part of her master’s thesis in automation and robotics. The chair, which self-disinfects using UV-C light, could be used especially in public places, such as: hospitals, medical clinics, schools, restaurants, trams, trains, airports, office buildings and not only during the coronavirus pandemic – emphasizes the designer.

The disinfection of the smart chair takes place every time the user gets up and it resembles the mechanism of the printer’s performance. The chair material, like the paper in the printer, moves on rollers and passes through the disinfection unit.
