Piotr Piasek from the University of Łódź (UŁ) received the 1st award in the 27th Jan Józef Lipski competition for the work “The problem of fascism in the thought of Georges Bataille against the background of contemporary discussion on refascization”, which was presented in 2021 at the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Lodz.

The JJ Lipski competition is organized by the Open Republic Association against Antisemitism and Xenophobia. The aim of the project is to select the best master’s thesis in the field of humanities and social sciences, the author of which studies important phenomena and problems that can be observed from the nineteenth century to the present day.

In the text written under the scientific supervision of Dr Krzysztof Matuszewski’s work, Piotr Piasek, refers to the essay “Psychological structure of fascism” published by Georges Bataille in 1933-34. The French philosopher proposed a definition of the title phenomenon, which focused on the structural (psychological) relationships emerging between various social groups in the face of an intra-social crisis – most often economic ones.
