Students from the University of Gdansk, the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow were the winners of the second nationwide academic fact-checking competition ‘DETECTOR’ organised by the Institute of Media, Journalism and Social Communication at the Gdansk university.

Participants had to solve 10 tasks related to the verification of false information on the web, in which they had to demonstrate critical thinking and specific competences. The tasks were related, among others, to Russian disinformation, false information on migration, conspiracy theories or the specific use of advanced verification techniques in practice.

The competition prizes were won by Andrzej Snopinski, a student of economics at the University of Gdańsk; Julia Kaproń, a student of journalism and social communication at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University; and Filip Wilczyński, a student of psychology at Jagiellonian University.
