Students of the University of Zielona Góra developed a tricycle for people with disabilities

20.10.2021

Students of the University of Zielona Góra, members of the Student Science Club “Akademicki Związek Motorowy” have developed a three-wheeled bicycle for people with disabilities. “Handbike” enables recreational riding on a paved road and in off-road conditions.

The vehicle was entirely designed and manufactured by students of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering. Each element, apart from the front and rear wheels and gears, was made by hand. The multi-link rear suspension similar to car’s solution is patented. Patent applications for the rest of the design solutions are under consideration.

Designers and test users emphasize the comfort and safety of the tricycle. Everything is amortized, the vehicle is stable and there is no risk of falling over. It is not a bike for racing, but for tourist and recreational riding, but safety is very important and the handbike provides it.
