Tests of a new Polish drone for gas and oil exploration

27.02.2018

Soon the tests of an advanced drone for exploration of gas and crude oil begin. The drone was constructed by a Wrocław BZB UAS startup and commissioned by Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo. It will replace the older type of device, which has been used by the Geology and Exploitation Department searching for gas and oil resources for three years. The companies established cooperation within the MIT Enterprise Forum acceleration program.

– Aerial photos of the terrain taken by the drone may be transformed into a three-dimensional map – said Kacper Budnik from BZB UAS – which will facilitate the planning of exploration, location of drilling and reduce the cost of seismic surveys.

The device equipped with an optoelectronic head is autonomous, light and small. The components were made in 3D printing technology; the structure was reinforced with composite materials. (kp)
