Unique collections of the Library of the University of Silesia to become more accessible

30.07.2020

The Library of the University of Silesia in Katowice will receive over 50,000. PLN co-financing from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for the project “Conservation, digitization and dissemination of unique collections of the Library of the University of Silesia”. The aim is to popularize and extend access to selected library collections.

The project will enable universal access to works that are usually available to a selected group of researchers. Digitization will allow everybody to deal with these valuable collections, conduct research, or use their fragments (e.g. in popular publications and textbooks). The digitization of musical notes and their transcription also adds a popularizing value, and the notes published in this way can be used by both amateurs and professionals.

Due to the historic and unique nature of part of the resource covered by the project, as well as its condition, digitization will be preceded by conservation works.
