Universities increase expenditures on research and development

The Central Statistical Office (GUS) provided preliminary information on research and development (R&D) activities in Poland in 2019. According to the data, gross domestic expenditure on R&D amounted to PLN 30.3 billion and increased by 18.1% in relation to the previous year.

Enterprises made most of the expenditures on R&D. They allocated PLN 19 billion for this purpose. Universities allocated over one third of the expenditure i.e., PLN 10.7 billion, which is PLN 2.6 billion more than in 2018.

The Central Statistical Office report “Higher education and its finances in 2019” shows, that universities have received more money from the state budget for the implementation of R&D works. Last year, the revenues of universities from the funds allocated by the National Center for Research and Development, the National Science Center and from funds for the implementation of programs, specified by the minister amounted to a total of PLN 1.36 billion, in relation to PLN 1.2 billion a year before.
