University of Gdańsk to fight cancer with the financing of the National Science Center

28.12.2021

Dr Małgorzata Kurkowiak, PhD from the International Cancer Vaccine Research Center of the University of Gdańsk will carry out a project that will enable the determination of new roles of the ADAR1 protein in cancer. This may contribute to the detection of new tumor markers that could be used in cancer diagnostics.

The project received funding within the international competition Weave-UNISONO, organized by the National Science Center and enabling teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany and Poland to conduct bilateral or trilateral research projects.

The works will be carried out in partnership with CEITEC (Central European Institute of Technology) – Masaryk University in the Czech Republic. Dr Kurkowiak will work with the team of Prof. Mary Anne O’Connell from CEITEC, a world-renowned research specialist in ADAR1-mediated RNA editing.
