14.03.2018

Linguists, literary scholars and historians from several departments of the University of Lodz, in cooperation with foreign scientists, will research “Polemical literature of the Orthodox Slavs in the Middle Ages”. The research will be carried out thanks to a grant from the “Harmonia” program of the National Science Center.

The aim of the project is to present this important part of the European cultural and historical heritage in terms of the complexity of medieval literature of the Orthodox Slavs. This involves gathering, describing, analyzing and releasing medieval anti-heretic, anti-Jewish, anti-Latin and anti-Tatar texts. These sources are important to comprehend the complex history of Eastern Christianity, and at the same time – extremely diverse in terms of genre. There are polemical treaties, liturgical texts, polemical stories and speeches, as well as anathemas or tips on how to punish apostates from Orthodox Church.
