The University of Silesia in Katowice is one of the universities joining the European Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), established to change the system of research evaluation.

The coalition was formed as a result of an agreement in July 2022 in response to an earlier report by the European Commission on changes to the evaluation system The proposals were supported by more than 350 science and science support organisations from more than 40 countries, and the coordinating team for the document included representatives from Science Europe, the European University Association and independent researchers.

CoARA adopted commitments that take into account open science and its impact on research quality. In particular, the document emphasises the need to ensure universal access to methods and results, which facilitates the verification and replication of research, as well as the re-use of research results.
