University of Silesia patented precursors of many important chemical compounds

Scientists of the University of Silesia have developed new 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives of hydroxydialdehyde, which may be precursors of important chemical compounds for industrial and pharmaceutical use. The invention and the method of obtaining have been patented.

In the world, more than 2 thousand. tons of quinoline derivatives. These compounds exhibit antimalarial, antiprotozoal, antibacterial, antifungal and even antiasthmatic properties. They have great hopes related to the design of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of neoplastic diseases.

They are commonly used in the production of agents to combat, for example, the effects of cereal infection with flour meal (Blumeria graminis). An interesting fact is that they are used in forensics, thanks to the use of quinoline chelated compounds with metals, traces of use of metal objects by suspects can be detected.
