The University of Szczecin joined the International Council of Archives. It became a member of the Section of University Archives and Research Units established in 1992.

The International Council on Archives is a non-governmental organization founded in 1948 to support the development of archives, disseminate knowledge about the stored materials and facilitate access to them. The University of Szczecin joined the group of approximately 1,400 world institutions that share information about their archival resources and promote archival activities around the world.

The Council works closely with UNESCO in particular in ensuring the transparency of documenting the activities of public bodies and in matters relating to the observance of human rights.
