The Department of Romantic Literature of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw is inviting participants to the conference “Romantic Genologies – on the bicentenary of the birth of Polish Romanticism”, to be held on 11-13 October 2022.

Conceived as the beginning of new thinking about man and the world, Romanticism was also a ‘Copernican Revolution’ in reflection on literature. An important harbinger of artistic and world-view changes was the emergence of new literary genres and the creative modification of existing forms of expression.

The organisers emphasise that the Romantics did not write textbooks on poetics, but created their own distinctive formulas for creating genres. By destroying stereotypes, they created new norms and patterns.

During the event, researchers from Polish universities will present papers within four thematic blocks: Research Perspectives, Around Romantic Prose Forms, Recognition of the Lyric and Around Romantic Dramatic Forms.
